Kolkata: Dec 7, 2012

Kevin Pietersen was unbeaten on 29 and Ian Bell on three, as England extended their first-innings lead to 65, reaching 381 for three at tea on the third day of the Kolkata Test against India, on Friday.

Alastair Cook fell to a bizarre dismissal after a wonderfully crafted innings of 190 as England reached 381 for 3, going past India’s total in the third Test at Kolkata.

England batsmen continued to score runs but Pragyan Ojha struck to dismiss Jonathan Trott. Trott, who put on a 173 runs stand with Cook for the second wicket, was caught behind by MS Dhoni off a ball that showed sharp turn to give Ojha his second wicket of the innings.

Cook was then joined by Kevin Pietersen and many expected the duo to repeat performance from the Wankhede Test. But a freak runout brought an abrubt end to Cook’s innings of 190.

Earlier, Cook and Trott piled on the misery for India as they steered the visitors to a commanding 296 for one at lunch on the third day of the third cricket Tests on Friday.

Brief Scores: India 316 (Sachin Tendulkar 76, MS Dhoni 52; Monty Panesar 4 for 90, James Anderson 3 for 89) trail England 381 for 3 (Alastair Cook 190, Jonathan Trott 66; Pragya Ojha 2 for 94) by 65 runs
