Joe Root and Alex Hales have maintained the tempo for England although they lost two early wickets. In six overs, England are 46 for two. Root and Hales have been attacking and have taken the charge to the Indian bowlers.

Joe Root walked in at the fall of the second wicket. He started off by hitting a four through the leg-side and then got another one in the next over, bowled by Shami. In that over, he was given a life as he hit it high in the air and there was some miscommunication between Ravichandran Ashwin and Karn Sharma at square-leg and the catch went down. Mohit then bowled the sixth over and the first ball was hit for four through point.

England started off very well when they smashed 17 runs off the first over bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin. But then, the pacers got back well and they got the wicket of Jason Roy and Moeen Ali. Both the batsmen were caught as they played to cover. They chipped the ball to Ajinkya Rahane on both occasions.

Earlier, England won the toss and chose to bat first. Jason Roy made his debut for England. For India, Ambati Rayudu and Karn Sharma made their T20 International debuts. The captains, MS Dhoni and Eoin Morgan are playing their respective 50th T20 Internationals. Morgan has played a few for Ireland though. Dhoni has played 49 of those as captain.
