In their bid to keep the series alive, India have started the third Test on a solid note with a much improved batting show on the opening day at Trent Bridge.
Captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane combined for a 159-run partnership for the fourth wicket make England bowlers toil. While Rahane was out on 81, Kohli missed out on his second century of the series by just three runs. India finished the day at 307/6 after the departure of allrounder Hardik Pandya on 18. After being asked to bat first under cloud cover, the opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul negotiated the seamers well to add 60 runs between them. However, Chris Woakes got rid of them and then added a third scalp to his kitty in Cheteshwar Pujara to snatch the advantage in the first session.
