India‘s head coach Anil Kumble approved selectors decision of picking up the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel ahead of youngster Rishabh Pant for the third Test against England to be played at Mohali. Patel is all set to make a comeback in the Test side after a long gap of 8 years since regular wicketkeeper-batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, is injured. Lots of talk have been made on Parthiv’s selection as a youngster like Pant ticked all boxes in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17 season amassing 874 runs at a staggering average of 97.11. However, Kumble came out in support of Patel as he is more polished as a keeper than young Pant. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 3rd Test at Mohali

According to Cricbuzz, Kumble emphasised that Parthiv’s proven wicketkeeping skills pushed him ahead in the pecking order. “I think it’s unfortunate that Saha is missing out in this Test match. He had a strain on the final day of the Test match. He was obviously in the starting the line-up for this but the scans yesterday showed that there was a little bit of tendonitis, that’s why it was better that we gave him a break from this Test match. Parthiv has been really consistent, both in his keeping as well as batting. That’s why Parthiv was chosen.

This should keep Patel in good stead before the third Test which begins on November 26. India have their nose ahead with a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series after winning the second Test at Visakhapatnam.
