Ravichandran Ashwin scored 72 off 113 balls IANS

India lost an early wicket in form of Ravichandran Ashwin, who was dismissed by England bowler Ben Stokes on the third day morning in third Test at Mohali. India were able to take lead in the first innings, after resuming at 271 for 6 on the third day, but lost their ace batsman. Ashwin left the ground furious at himself having slashed hard on a wide delivery on the off-stump, getting caught at gully when India s lead in the first innings was only of 18 runs. Stokes was the bowler to dismiss the Indian batsman, registering his third wicket in the innings. LIVE Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 3rd Test at Mohali

Ashwin batted as well as he does, facing 113 balls and striking 11 boundaries, during his innings of 72 runs. He added as many as 92 runs for the seventh wicket with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The two came together when India were struggling at 204 for 6, having lost their captain Virat Kohli for 62. India were still more than 70 runs behind England s first innings total of 283, but thanks to the sturdy stand between Ashwin and Jadeja, they were able to take lead against the touring side. India s aim on the third day will be to bat for as much time as possible, since a handy lead in the first innings will help them put pressure on the English side. If India manage to keep England out there on the field for long, the hosts will be able to register a psychological advantage of sorts.
