ENG 124/8 | Overs 20 | Broad 7*, Tredwell 5*

Drama Drama! Broad misses the first one and there is a stumping appeal. The umpire looks at it hard, but then gives it not out. Broad sweeps the next ball for four. The third ball is played straight to the covers and Broad runs a single. Tredwell takes strike for the fourth ball with ten to get. He pushes for a couple as England now need eight off two. The penultimate ball is played behind the bowler for two. England need six off the last ball. Tredwell misses the last ball. India have won the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 by five runs.

ENG 115/8 | Overs 19 | Broad 2*, Tredwell 1*  OUT! Buttler 0(1), Bresnan 2(4)

Jadeja gets Buttler. The England stumper tries to make room, but is beaten in the air as the ball shatters his wood-work. England have panicked. Bresnan misses one and tries to go for a run, but is left stranded in the middle. He is run-out as England lose their eight.  England need 15 off the last over.

ENG 111/6 | Overs 18 | Buttler 0*, Bresnan 1* OUT! Bopara 30(25), OUT! Morgan 33(30)

Ishant has been pulled for a six by Morgan over fine-leg. England have taken control. Ishant has lost his line here as he bowls two wides down the off-side. However, he gets Morgan with a slower ball as the southpaw tries to carve it over mid-wicket. He then gets Bopara as the batsman tries to pull the ball, but manages to send it down square leg’s throat. Ishant bowls a good delivery for his hat-trick delivery but Bresnan lets it go through. Dramatic over that!

ENG 102/4 | Overs 17 | Morgan 27*, Bopara 30*

Jadeja finally returns to the attack. Bopara is the man for England today! He sits on one knee and sweeps it over square leg for six. England are feeling more confident by the minute. England get their hundred and look on course.

ENG 90/4 | Overs 16 | Morgan 27*, Bopara 18*

Raina continues as spin is the crucial element here. England haven’t taken their batting powerplay yet. Morgan reverse sweeps one to the third-man boundary. Pressure on India.

ENG 82/4 | Overs 15 | Morgan 22*, Bopara 15*

Ishant is going to bowl his third over. Bopara hits one over the bowlers head and it falls in no man’s land. The outfield is still wet and it doesn’t go to the boundary. They get only two for that. Bopara then smashes the last ball over square leg for a massive six.

ENG 71/4 | Overs 14 | Morgan 20*, Bopara 6*

Raina is persisted with as Dhoni might be saving Jadeja and Ashwin for later. He too is getting turn and has Morgan in trouble as one just misses the off-stump.

ENG 68/4 | Overs 13 | Morgan 18*, Bopara 5*

Bhuvneshwar to bowl. Morgan and Bopara deal in singles in that over. They steal a few tight ones and Dhoni wasn’t happy with one of his fielders.

Suresh Raina’s gentle off-spinners come into play. Morgan is getting into his stride as he smashes one through the covers for four.

There is a change as Ishant comes back into the attack. Bopara gets off the mark with a cut through the off-side. They have packed men on the off-side for Morgan and he carves one through the covers as Ishant bowls it a little wide. England’s fifty comes up with that boundary. The pressure releases a little bit with this over.

ENG 46/4 | Overs 10 | Morgan 1*, Bopara 0*

Ashwin is into his third over. There are men crowding around the bat and Ashwin is getting good purchase. Morgan isn’t very comfortable playing Ashwin here as Ashwin bowls a maiden.

ENG 46/4 | Overs 9 | Morgan 1*, Bopara 0*  OUT! Bell 13(16)

The replays were not exactly clear, but the third-umpre has given it out. Bopara is in and he had a good day with the ball. Can he do it with the bat?

ENG 41/3 | Overs 8 | Bell 9*, Morgan 0* OUT! Root 7(9)

ENG 30/2 | Overs 6 | Bell 6*, Root 1* OUT! Trott 20(17)

Instant success for Ravichandran Ashwin. There is a leg-before appeal, but it was turned down. The next ball goes down the leg-side and Trott over-balances. In no time, Dhoni takes the bails off. Joe Root walks in.

ENG 27/1 | Overs 5 | Bell 5*, Trott 20*

Jadeja is introduced early and there is turn for him. He beats Trott with one delivery that turned a lot. England manage to pick three singles.

ENG 24/1 | Overs 4 | Bell 4*, Trott 18*

The boundaries have released the pressure and Bell and Trott are now merely dealing in singles and doubles. Umesh does bowl a few decent deliveries, but gets a few on to the pads.

ENG 17/1 | Overs 3 | Bell 1*, Trott 14*

Trott is the man in form. Bhuvneshwar bowls on the pads and Trott has no problems in pushing it through mid-wicket for four. Bhuvneshwar bowls wide and Trott merely cuts him for four.

ENG 6/1 | Overs 2 | Bell 1*, Trott 3* OUT! Cook 2(9)

Umesh Yadav has his man! He builds the pressure with a few dot balls. Cook then tries to guide the fifth ball, but manages an edge that is taken by Ashwin at first-slip. It was a good catch as he had to dive to his left and pouch it. As calm as ever, Trott guides his first ball through the leg side for a single.

ENG 3/0 | Over 1 | Cook 2*, Bell 1*

Cook gets off the mark by cutting one to third-man. Bhuvneshwar is getting movement and England batsmen are watching the ball closely.

Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli’s cameos have helped India to 129. But, will that be enough? Ravi Bopara showed what one can do on this surface with his nagging medium pacers. His spell was crucial and that might present some hope for the Indian bowlers. At the same time, England would fancy their chances of getting their hands over the silverware. Join us in some time for the England run-chase.

India lose their third as Karthik tries to sweep Tredwell, but gets a top-edge. Eoin Morgan takes a simple catch. Suresh Raina comes in and helps Kohli steal a quick single. India aren’t getting momentum here.

IND 64/2 | Overs 11 | Kohli 16*, Karthik 6*

Bopara continues as there is a light drizzle. Karthik and Kohli are merely taking singles as Bopara is bowling well. Five runs have come off that over.

IND 59/2 | Overs 10 | Kohli 14*, Karthik 3*

Kohli dances down the tack and carts Tredwell over wide long-on. A lot of wrists there as he turned it around. India need a few more. England have them under control so far.

India’s fifty is up as Ravi Bopara is into the attack. And he gets the big one! Dhawan tries to loft him over the covers, but only manages to spoon a catch to Tredwell. Dinesh Karthik comes in and gets off the mark on the last ball. A good over by Bopara.

IND 49/1 | Overs 8 | Dhawan 31*, Kohli 8*

James Tredwell is into the attack. He is in good touch and isn’t giving anything away until Dhawan creates the opportunity. He tries a sweep but doesn’t connect. He smashes the next ball past deep square leg. It went at the rate of knots. He then reverse-sweeps, but Bresnan tries to pull it back. However, umpires call it a four.

IND 40/1 | Overs 7 | Dhawan 23*, Kohli 7*

We are back on and the Indian batsmen restart proceeding with two singles to complete the over. Some movement there for Bresnan.

We have a start at 05:40 local time (10:20 PM IST).

IND 38/1 | Overs 6.2 | Dhawan 22*, Kohli 6*

Dhawan charges to Bresnan, but the bowler responds by bowling a bouncer. The batsman lets it go through to the wicket-keeper. And it rains again, as the covers are back. Stop start day!

The covers are coming off and it is bright and sunny. The news is that the officials have added an hour and fifteen minutes to the sheduled play.

IND 35/1 | Overs 6 | Dhawan 20*, Kohli 6*

The batsmen are running very well. Kohli dabs one round the corner and sprints across for two. There is some movement in the air and there have been a lot of inside-edges. There is a bit of a drizzle as well, in fact, it has become heavy and the players are leaving the park. The covers are coming on. Here we go again!

And it is a passing shower as we we are back on. The first ball after the stoppage has been wallopped over third-man as Dhawan chases a wide-one. Don’t bowl to him there.

Earlier, Dhawan was moving about the crease for the first ball. Both batsmen were eager to take the singles and rotate strike.

IND 16/0 | Overs 3 | Rohit 8*, Dhawan 8*

India have their first boundary. Streaky one at that! Rohit chases one outside the off-stumo and edges it past first-slip as it goes into the boundary. Anderson makes a good comeback as he keeps Rohit quiet. The last ball trickles for four overthrows. Dhawan tucks it onto the leg-side and the throw is too high for the wicket-keeper Jos Buttler as he tips it and it goes past the fielder backing up.

IND 6/0 | Overs 2 | Rohit 3*, Dhawan 3*

Stuart Broad comes into the attack and bangs one in short to Dhawan. The southpaw has no problems and guides it for a single. Watchful start by these two as they are taking the quick singles and trying to get their eye in.

IND 2/0 | Over 1 | Rohit 1*, Dhawan 1*

India get underway with the second ball of the game as Rohit Sharma tucks James Anderson to the leg-side and takes a single. Dhawan plays one past second slip to get off the mark.

The teams are coming out and we are all set for the action to begin. England are in a huddle as Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma walk to the wicket.

Believe it or not, there are blue skies at Edgbaston. It is a 20 overs a side game. There would be a four over mandatory powerplay and a two over batting powerplay.

News coming in that it has stopped raining and that the game would begin at 04:20 PM local time (8:45 PM IST).

It has started raining again and the covers have come on. Chances of play look bleak.

The inspection is done, Play will start at 03:45 local time (08:15 PM IST). It would be a 24 overs a side game.

There is a glimmer of hope as it has stopped raining and one can see some sunshine. The Super-Sopper is out there trying to get the conditions in order. There would be an inspection at 07:30 PM IST.

The rain contines, but it is said to be a drizzle. There is an early lunch as the umpires have called for it. The groundstaff is still working and mopping the extra water with the Super-Sopper.

It has stopped raining and the umpires are out there talking to the groundsman. Let us see what it is about as they have to get the covers off.

There is news that there would be an inspection at 04:30 PM IST if there is no further rain. And there is rain again!

India have been unchanged in this tournament and it shows how well they have gelled as a unit. It hasn’t happened often. Mohandas Menon has the details:

If the game doesn’t start by 04:15 PM IST, they would start reducing the overs.

A game of hide and seek with the clouds! The heavens have opened again and the covers are on. Here is something interesting from Robert Croft, the former England cricketer.

Some better news. The covers coming off. Hopefully, the conditions get better and we have some cricketing action soon.

We have some bad news here. It has started raining at Edgbaston and the covers are on. The players have left the field and headed to the pavilion.

The two teams are entering the park for the national anthems. “The Conquest of Vangelis” playing in the background as they come in. The flags are out already.

We are ready for the national anthems.

In two days time, India would celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1983 World Cup victory and here is an opportunity to mark that occasion with another triumph. On the other hand, this is England’s chance to win their first One-Day International (ODI) silverware.

England skipper Alastair Cook has won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 final. England have got Tim Bresnan in place of Steven Finn. So, they have opted for James Tredwell, who has done so well in this tournament, ahead of Graeme Swann. It was a tough call on Finn, but looks like it had to be made.

India are unchanged and why would they alter their winning combination? Here are the line-ups.

England: Alastair Cook (c), Ian Bell, Jonathan Trott, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler (wk), Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, James Tredwell.

India: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav.
