While son Keaton Jennings became the third England cricketer to score hundred on debut against India playing in the fourth Test at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, dad Ray Jennings missed the proud moment due to power cut. Ray, who was in Mauritius, saw him bat at 96 but could not catch him getting to the landmark. However, he later caught up with a few video footages of the fine innings. Keaton’s 112-run feat helped England put a challenging 400 on the board against India, who are already 2-0 up in the ongoing series with one more match to go.
Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Ray revealed, “My family have sent me some videos of the shot that got him to the hundred. This is the best day of my sporting life. My nerves are shot. You train your kid from the age of five and you see the fire in him, you see his disappointments and his success. It’s just wonderful. This is his glory.

“It’s my son’s space. It’s his tour and I didn’t want to get in the way. It’s his domain. I knew once Haseeb Hameed broke his finger that there was a 98 per cent chance he would be playing but I also knew it was going to be tough. To go from South Africa to England to Dubai to India and into a series where the side is 2-0 down, where you don’t know really anyone besides Ben Stokes, and then to open the batting in India there is definitely going to be pressure. But I knew he would need to figure out how he is going to handle that.”

Ray says he will communicate with his son soon, to be specific, “After he has connected with his girlfriend and all the other messages he would have got”.
“You can’t buy what he has had in the last six months — from captaining Durham, to the Lions, to the call-up. Now all it needs is for England to win this game and the next one and walk away with a drawn series. That will be a dream 2016 for any cricketer,” he concluded.
