Little did Virat Kohli imagine that MS Dhoni would step down as the captain of the limited-overs side 10 days prior to ODI series against England. Little did Kohli know that he would be heralded as India s captain across formats after 5 days into the new year. Kohli, who took over from Dhoni as the Test captain in 2015, has now made a winning start to his captaincy tenure with an impressive 2-1 series win over England in the three-match series, which concluded on Sunday. Even though the hosts suffered a narrow win in the final game at Kolkata, Kohli had a memorabilia to take home post the series win, thanks to Dhoni.

It is a well-known fact that Dhoni has the habit of carrying the wickets as memorabilia after victories that are special to him. After India s 15-run victory in the second ODI at Cuttack, Dhoni suggested Kohli that he should take the match ball with him as a memory, and the new Indian captain was quick enough to make the gift even more special after sealing his first series win as the full-time captain. Kohli told, MS gave me the match ball in the second game. The stumps are too expensive nowadays, and they don t allow us to take it home (smiles). He gave me the ball and told me that it was my first series win as captain and it is memorable. It was a special moment for me and I got the ball signed from him as well.
