Shikhar Dhawan smashed an unbeaten half-century as India reached 106 for one against Leicestershire at lunch on the opening day of their three-day warm-up match at Grace Road on Thursday. Dhawan cracked 11 fours to reach 55 not out off 86 balls, and accompanying him was Gautam Gambhir, batting on 21.

After India captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat,  openers Dhawan and Murali Vijay provided their side a confident start as they added 46 runs for the first wicket. Both the batsmen looked comfortable at the crease and did not allow the opposition bowlers to make any damage.

Vijay fell in the 16th over of the innings, when he was cleaned up by Leicestershire bowler Anthony Ireland for 20. Vijay struck three boundaries and faced 51 balls during his stay.

The dismissal of the right-handed batsman brought Gambhir at the crease, who began on a positive note by reaching 21 not out off 37 balls with the help of three fours. Dhawan is batting on 55.
