Team India were in unfamiliar territory post the series opener defeat against New Zealand in the first ODI of the 3-match series at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Nonetheless, India bounced back, showing character and grit in the penultimate match of the series at Pune. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dinesh Karthik and Shikhar Dhawan were the chief architects of the victory, and skipper Virat Kohli credited the entire team for bouncing back. He stated in the post-match conference that the camp had set their eyes on a turnaround. Kohli also emphasised that they require an encore in the series decider on Sunday at Green Park, Kanpur.

Kohli stated: “Pretty good game for us today, exactly what we spoke at toss time. We thought the wicket will play slower during the day, and better during the evening. That’s how it was. Bowlers were really clinical today and fielders as well. Both those guys [Bhuvneshwar and Jasprit Bumrah] are coming along nicely. They know they’re going to start more often than not. Today, with the wicket being slow, it was heartening to see them getting wickets in conventional ways.”

Following a thorough performance to chase down 231 in 46 overs, Kohli praised his batters as well: “Dhawan has been playing really well. He’s striking the ball really well. He’s pretty confident at the moment. Dinesh as well, getting some crucial runs for himself as well as the team. I look forward to challenges. We spoke about bouncing back, and we have bounced back here today. Would look to play similar sort of cricket in Kanpur as well.”
