The historic 250th Test at home for India started on Friday against New Zealand at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The match began with the toss, which was won by India who decided to bat first, followed with both the nations’ national anthem and then Kapil Dev ringing the bell for the first time at Eden Gardens. Batting first, India started pretty awfully by losing both the openers — Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay. Further, captain Virat Kohli too departed soon and India were in trouble with three wickets lost at the score of 46. From there on, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane put up a match saving partnership by adding 141 runs between them.

Both played very well throughout the day but later lost their wickets. From Kiwi bowling department, Matt Henry did a brilliant job by putting India on backfoot with his three wickets. Later, spinner Jeetan Patel also grabbed two crucial wickets and reduced India to 239 for seven at the end of the first day of the second Test.
