New Zealand opener Tom Latham continued his good run in the current tour of India as his slammed his sixth One-Day International (ODI) fifty in the 3rd ODI between India and New Zealand at Mohali. Latham reached his fifty in 59 balls, in the 26th over after he lost his opening partner Martin Guptill and captain Kane Williamson early. His innings consisted three boundaries and one six. This is the 24-year-old southpaw’s sixth ODI fifty and 41st ODI. His knock placed New Zealand to 133 for 2 after 25.1 overs as they eye a win in Mohali to go up 2-0 in the ongoing ODI series. At the beginning of the innings, Latham was playing second fiddle to Guptill early on and once the latter got out, he stepped up. Latham employed the sweep shot to very good effect but survived a close chance in his 40s when he tried to sweep Akshar Patel and almost got caught at deep square-leg as it fell short of the fielder. Latham was good in the Test series as well, scoring 194 runs and got fifties in all the three Tests. This is his first tour of India and he has been brilliant so far. India won the first ODI courtesy their bowlers and wonderful knock of 85 not out from Virat Kohli but in the second ODI, Williamson’s century lifted New Zealand to 242 but India fell short of the total by six runs. The team that wins this ODI will go one up in the series.
