India’s comeback man Gautam Gambhir recorded his 22nd Test half-century playing against New Zealand in the third and final Test of the three-match series at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Gambhir was retired hurt last evening after rekindling a shoulder injury he suffered while fielding. After the fall of Murali Vijay’s wicket on Day four, Gambhir was back in the middle, looked in complete control and blasted his way to a belligerent half-century. Gambhir got to his fifty in 55 balls which included 6 boundaries. Gambhir who came in for the second Test as a cover for KL Rahul, got into the playing XI in the third Test after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out following finger injury. Gambhir began quite well in his comeback match in the first innings and opened his account with a boundary and later followed by two back to back sixes to Matt Henry. He was looking quite confident with his batting but got out after scoring 29 which included two sixes as well. Gambhir last played for India two years back in August 2014 against England at London. Also, he last played for India in Tests at home in December 2012 at Nagpur and that was too against England. Since then, he went through his poor form but with toiled hard to get back into the Indian side.

India at the moment are 109 for 1, with a 367 run lead on board on Day four after bundling out New Zealand for 299 in the first innings after making a mammoth 557 run in their first innings.
