The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced promising opening batsman Karun Nair as a replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan was ruled out for the third Test against New Zealand after sustaining a minor fracture on his left hand during the second Test, which India clinched by a whopping 178-run margin. With this emphatic victory, India have also moved to the top spot in latest ICC Test rankings thereby removing Pakistan. Having already clinched the series 2-0, India will take on the Kiwis in the final Test starting on October 8 in Indore. This will be the first ever Test played in Indore which will sum up the series. KL Rahul got injured after the first Test and Gautam Gambhir was recalled into the squad but did not get a chance to feature in the Playing XI. With Dhawan’s ouster, there again seems to be a race between Gambhir and Nair for the final encounter.
