Guptill in particular was heavy on the bowlers on Day three as he hit some mind-boggling boundaries. Guptill reached his half-century in style with a cracking four off Jadeja in just 87-balls. Guptill was lucky to survive after Ajinkya Rahane dropped simple catch at slip. This is the first instance of both Kiwi openers scoring 50 plus in an innings in India since October 2003, last pair to do so was Mark Richardson & Lou Vincent during 2nd Test at Mohali in 2003. Indoris had a treat to their eyes with a spectacular show by Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, who achieved his second double century while the other went past his highest Test score. Despite the fall of wicket of Kohli, Rohit Sharma carried the form and scored his fifty as well.

New Zealand bowlers were seen helpless on the field yet they showed true sportsmanship by congratulating the Indian batsmen for their feat. New Zealand on Day 1 were 29 for no-loss.
