According to sources, the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match at the Asia Cup will go ahead as scheduled on September 14, after the BCCI confirmed its participation during a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman are placed in Group A, according to the schedule released on Saturday.

“The BCCI cannot withdraw from the tournament or the match now. The decision was agreed upon after the ACC meeting. Since India is the host nation, nothing can be changed at this stage. An official-level discussion took place, and the outcome was decided accordingly. The match will go ahead as scheduled,” BCCI sources told IANS on Sunday.

After Yuvraj Singh and his team opted out of their scheduled match against Pakistan Champions in Birmingham during the second season of the World Championship of Legends, tensions escalated around the India-Pakistan rivalry. Organisers cancelled the match following the withdrawal.

After the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, heightened political tensions between India and Pakistan prompted the players to withdraw from the match.

However, the BCCI hasn’t yet issued a statement regarding a potential boycott of Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the date for the 17th edition of the Asia Cup on Saturday.

The event will feature eight teams for the first time in its history, and it will be played in the T20 format to coincide with preparations for the World T20 Cup in 2026.

India and Pakistan will be in Group A with the UAE and Oman, while Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will be in Group B.

India and Pakistan may face each other three times during the tournament, depending on their performances in the group and Super Four stage.

After defeating Sri Lanka in the 2023 final, India enter the competition as defending champions.
