Chennai: Dec 30, 2012
The start of the first One-Day International between India and Pakistan at Chennai has been delayed by one hour due to a damp pitch and wet outfield.
While the match was supposed to begin by 9am, the two umpires, Billy Bowden and S Ravi, inspected the pitch at 8.45 am and said that the toss will take place at 9.30 am and the match will commence by 10am.
There have been incessant rains in Chennai in the last few days, which has resulted in a wet outfield. However, the two umpires said that the ground staff at the MA Chidambaram stadium have done a good job in keeping the pitch and the outfield intact for a full game. It is to be remembered that the drainage system at the ground also had an overhaul during the renovation of the stadium a few years back.
The good news for the fans is that the rains have receded and the two teams will, weather permitting, play the full 100 overs.
