India vs South Africa Tests: Injured Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of South Africa Tests

Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of India’s three-match Test series against South Africa, starting October 2 due to a minor stress fracture in his lower back. 

Umesh Yadav replaces the Gujarat pacer in India’s Test squad.

“The injury was detected during a routine radiological screening. He will now undergo rehabilitation at NCA and will be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team,” a BCCI release stated. 

Burmah, who last played in the West Indies Test series in August, was rested for the T20I series against South Africa that concluded recently.

The 25-year-old has been India’s best bowler in Tests ever since his debut in January 2018 in South Africa, claiming 62 wickets in 12 Tests at an average of 19.24 in his short career so far. 

The series against South Africa would have been Bumrah’s first home series in Tests.

Yadav last played for India in Tests against Australia in the 2nd Test in December 2018 and was part of India A for the 2nd unofficial Test against South Africa A in Mysuru, were he went wicketless.
