India vs South Africa, 3rd T20I: David Miller equals record for most catches in T20Is

When David Miller took the catch of Hardik Pandya in the 20th over of the Indian innings during the 3rd T20I at Bengaluru, he completed the milestone of 50 T20I catches. With that he became the player with most catches in T20Is, alongside Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, who also as 50 outfield catches to his name from 111 matches.

Miller got to the match in only his 72nd match.

Miller had earlier in the series took jaw dropping catch of Shikhar Dhawan in the 2nd T20I at Mohali, intercepting a Dhawan lofted drive towards long-on with a one-handed take that had Dhawan and non-striker Kohli’s perplexed.

His 50th catch however was not as spectacular, but with the ball travelling at pace, Miller had to hold on to a tough one at long-on, the impact of which had him tumbling backwards.

Miller was not required to in SA’s chase as skipper Quinton de Kock steered his team home with a 52-ball 79-run knock. Reeza Hendricks contributed 28 off 26 balls while Temba Bavuma made an unbeaten 27. SA leveled the three-match series with a dominating nine-wicket win.

Among Indian players, Suresh Raina has the most catches as an outfielder, claiming 42 catches in 78 matches while Virat Kohli is second with 36 catches in 72 matches.

Overall, after Miller and Malik, AB de Villiers is third with 44 catches in 78 matches, Ross Taylor is fourth with 44 catches in 90 matches and Raina sits at No.5.
