India vs South Africa, 3rd Test: Cricket fraternity slam ‘dangerous’ Wanderers pitch

In the final Test between India  and South Africa at the Wanderers, Johannesburg, the pitch has proved to be dangerous for batsmen. In the pre-match session before the first day, Shaun Pollock spoke about how the cracks on the pitch will widen as the play progresses.

India elected to bat first and managed to get 194 on board for the first innings. However during the last session of Day Two, Hashim Amla was struck on ribs on Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. In the pitch report of Day Three the cracks were wide open allowing movement off the pitch. The pitch has been criticised the pitch on Twitter by many from the fraternity, deeming it ‘unfair’ to play.

Michael Holding gives this pitch 2 on 100 and he is spot on. This is nonsense. Unfair game. Is the @ICC listening? People can get hurt.

You often hear players saying “you’re never in on this pitch”. This is that pitch. This isn’t a fair pitch in a bat vs ball contest.

Murali Vijay has already taken many blows on him for surviving in the crease, while Virat Kohli was also struck on his fingers. There have been calls to call off the Test and it’s not an option that the umpires have not considered.
