Sri Lanka thrashed India at Dharamsala and took a 1-0 lead in the three-ODI series. You don’t normally see India’s scorecard reading 29 for 7 in an ODI. But then, there was no Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma took over but failed, along with his teammates, barring the crisis man MS Dhoni. The man responsible for India’s disastrous start was Suranga Lakmal. He and other bowlers took full assistance from the surface to bundle out India for 112. In reply, Lankans achieved the target with 7 wickets in hand. Skipper Thisara Perera admitted the pitch to be ‘unplayable’. In addition, he complimented his bowlers for the lead.

200 per cent credit to bowlers

“Firstly we need to give 200 percent credit to our bowlers; they did everything right for us, bowling in the right lines and length. Their discipline was excellent and that was the reason for our success,” stated Perera.

We did not expect this

“This is an unplayable wicket, we did not expect this. We thought around 250-260 but when we were bowling itself we realized that we had to keep them under 220,” added the newly-appointed skipper.

Finally, something for the batters!

“I thought Lakmal did perfectly for us in the Test series and now is carrying it forward in the ODIs. He’s the number one fast bowler for us at the moment. I have to mention Upul, he gave the best start and he is one of the best openers. Our batsmen have been doing well over the last couple of months but without success. All in all, everything worked for us today,” concluded Perera.
