Currently Viv Richards holds this record. He reached 6000 runs in 141 innings whereas Kolhi is on 5950 runs in 135 innings. So it is most likely that the Delhi lad will break Richard's record in near future.

Kohli is currently leading the Indian team in the absence of MS Dhoni. He had a terrible time with bat recently. But since the Delhi ODI against West Indies he got back his form somewhat. India will tour Australia next, then they will play the World cup. In these important series Kohli is expected to be India's main man with bat. So if he manages to get this achievement, it will be a major confidence booster for him.
