Technology is wonderful thing, depending on how you use it, of course. For Eden Gardens curator, Sujan Mukherjee it turned out to be a boon. With the first Test between India and Sri Lanka slated to be played at Kolkata, preparations had gone in overdrive mode on late November 14.

Unremitting Rains were predicted for following days, which could have seen the Test turn into a no-show. But it was a weather mobile app and quick thinking on part of ground staff that helped fans witness a thriller.

According to The Indian Express, Mukherjee said:  “The Test match was to commence from November 16. Late on November 14 evening, I opened the weather app on my mobile and bumped into the 7 am rain prediction for November 15. I reached Eden around 4.30 AM on the match eve, assembled my ground staff and covered the whole ground. By 6.30 AM we were done. Rain came about half an hour later … Without the timely intervention, the Test would have been a complete washout.”

With no play on Day One and only a handful of overs on Day Two, Mukherjee and his men toiled continuously to make this match possible for the rest of the match.
