Shikhar Dhawan missed out on his sixth One-Day International (ODI) hundred as he was bowled by Ajantha Mendis for 94 (114). Dhawan tried to play Mendis across and the spinner was bowling stump to stump. Dhawan missed it and the ball crashed into the stumps. Dinesh Karthik was also dismissed by Mendis. India are 200 for five in 40 overs.

It was an uncharacteristic Dhawan century which had more maturity than aggression. He carved his innings at the start before getting into his free-flowing groove.

Dhawan initially went for his strokes but found the runs hard to come by. While Rohit Sharma failed to adapt, Dhawan’s confidence quickly built up as he drove Lasith Malinga through the covers and followed it up with a push to get two consecutive boundaries. He then started playing with soft hands and collected the quick singles.

Along with Kohli he steadied the innings  and comfortably completed his sixth ODI half-century.
