Marlon Samuels completed his half-century in 61 balls as West Indies consolidate with an unbeaten partnership between Samuels and Darren Bravo (18). They are on 122 for the loss two wickets in the post lunch session on Day One of first Test.

West Indies lost their openers with 51 runs on board. Chris Gayle was the first to go for 18 dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar while Kieran Powell gave his wicket away to debutant Shami Ahmed. Samuels who came in at No 4, went aggressive against the bowlers hitting a few boundaries initially. He even welcomed Pragyan Ojha with a straight six.

Eden Gardens seems to be a lucky ground for Samuels as this is the venue where he got his first international ton.

This is Sachin Tendulkar’s penultimate Test. The maestro is set to retire after his 200th Test.
