West Indian opener Chris Gayle gifted his wicket away after getting off to a brisk start for 33 on Day Three of first Test. It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar yet again dismissing Gayle. The left-hander tried to fetch a short delivery moving away from him and lobbed it straight in the air. Virat Kohli running backwards at mid-wicket took a simple catch. He hit seven boundaries in his innings.
Gayle scored all the 33 runs in the innings by the time he got out with Kieran Powell struggling to get going.

MS Dhoni began the innings with his regular pacers, Bhuvneshwar and Mohammed Shami. The pacers got the ball to move around a bit and troubled the batsmen occasionally. Whenever the pacers erred outside off, Gayle smashed them through covers.

With the surface developing cracks, Dhoni got Ravichandran Ashwin early on, in the seventh over itself. The off-spinner created an opportunity when Kieran Powell almost gave a return catch to Ashwin.

India have posted 453 runs in reply to 234 by West Indies.
