The West Indies reached 257 for three after 42 overs in their opening One-Day International (ODI) at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Wednesday. Marlon Samuels was batting on 92, whereas Denesh Ramin was on 46 not out.

Samuels is nearing his century as he has faced 92 balls so far and struck eight boundaries and three sixes to reach 90 `not out. On the other hand, Ramdin has provided him strong support from the other end, reaching 46 not out off 49 balls with the help of four fours and a six.

Marlon Samuels has batted very well and that has helped West Indies the platform for a score over 300. He has batted extremely well and played some great shots. Denesh Ramdin too has given him good support and smashing it around. On one occasion, Mohammed Shami bowled a high full toss and Ramdin swatted it for a six over point.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was also carved by Samuels for a four behind point and then Ramdin also hit one through square leg. In 10 overs, they have scored 38.

India had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Coming into this ODI, there was some uncertainty about the West Indies players featuring as there was a pay dispute, but that issue was put to rest and both teams took the field.
