Riding on debutant Prithvi Shaw’s sparkling century, India dominated a depleted West Indies bowling attack on the opening day of the first Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. India finished the day at 364/4 with captain Virat Kohli unbeaten on 72 along with Rishabh Pant on 17*.

Opening the innings, 18-year-old Shaw scored 134 off 154 to become the youngest Indian debutant to hit a century. His innings was studded with 19 fours. With Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored 86, he added 206 runs for the second wicket after India lost KL Rahul in the very first over. Ajinkya Rahane scored 41 off 92 before being out caught behind.

For West Indies, Shannon Gabriel, Sherman Lewis, Roston Chase and Devendra Bishoo took a wicket each.
