The BCCI has confirmed that the debutant Shardul Thakur will play no further role on day one of the second Test between India and West Indies  in Hyderabad.

Thakur was forced off the field after 10 deliveries with an ankle injury, with R Ashwin completing the over.

The BCCI later confirmed that the 26-year-old had been sent for scans and would not return to take the field on Friday. An update on Thakur’s participation for the rest of the Hyderabad Test will be taken after the results of the scans by the team management, the board said.

Thakur was named in India’s squad of 12 on Thursday, and at the toss on Friday India captain Virat Kohli confirmed that the Mumbai pacer had been given his maiden Test cap with Mohammed Shami rested. Thakur has played five ODIs and seven T20Is in an India career that began in August 2017. In first-class cricket, the Mumbai seamer has 188 wickets from 55 matches.
