Live: West Indies 107/1 vs India; Kraigg Brathwaite 50 (143), Darren Bravo 18 (66)- That’s stumps from St. Lucia guys! A day mostly about India’s sustained fightback, today much elegant as compared to Day One. India started the day with both their overnight batsmen getting to their Test hundreds. Saha’s first while Ashwin’s fourth (second of the series), but after that it has been a spirited fightback from the home team. They need to be credited as they have improved and learned a lot from the drawn encounter prior to this Test match. Their top-order saw them through the day with the only loss coming in the form of Leon Johnson’s needless run-out. Kraigg Brathwaite has again piled up runs and is looking good with out-of-form, Darren Bravo. Hosts still trail India by 246 runs and will be hoping to drive home the advantage from this stage. Join us tomorrow guys for further updates on this match, till then goodnight and keep following CricketCountry for more cricket updates.

The Indians don’t seem to be taking any wicket so far. They probably need to start afresh from Day 3. A very crucial day to come for both the teams.

  • 2:18 AM IST

Live: West Indies 80/1 vs India; Kraigg Brathwaite 38 (112), Darren Bravo 13 (30)– Both the batsmen taking it slowly at the moment. • 2:03 AM IST

Live: West Indies 72/1 vs India; Kraigg Brathwaite 33 (86), Darren Bravo 11 (20)–India are attacking against an out-of-form, Darren Bravo. Ashwin has a forward-short-leg and a slip to the left-hander and making him play on the front foot. Meanwhile, Brathwaite looks set again. He has shown good amount of patience in this series, so far, while batting. 17 overs more to stumps.

  • 1:49 AM IST

Live: West Indies 65/1 vs India; Kraigg Brathwaite 33 (75), Darren Bravo 4 (9)–India have got the first breakthrough as Leon Johnson departs for 23. He was run out trying to be extra cheeky for grab a single. KL Rahul shows his alertness as a fielder as he ran him out. Darren Bravo comes in and this is a good platform for him to finally get some runs in this series.

  • 1:26 AM IST

Live: West Indies 56/0 vs India; Kraigg Brathwaite 29 (63), Leon Johnson 22 (65)– A great start by the home team. They know they are not chasing a mammoth score put up by the Indians. It is so good to see a good contest being put up by the hosts. They have plenty of overs still to play in the day. India hunting for a wicket with Ishant & Ashwin bowling in pair.

  • 1:01 AM IST

Live: West Indies 38/0 vs India; Kraigg Brathwaite 22 (49), Leon Johnson 16 (41)– Good start by the West Indies opener. No damage done yet as they are cruising slowly towards the 50-run mark. Ishant Sharma still hasn’t bowled any over for the side. Where is he? Something seems not right.

  • 12:48 AM IST

Live: West Indies 26/0 vs India; Trail by 327; Kraigg Brathwaite 13 (36), Leon Johnson 13 (36)– West Indies openers have a small partnership going at the moment. The surprising moment has been that there is still no sign for Ishant Sharma from the bowling end. Bhuvi and Shami are bowling in tandem whereas even Ashwin has rolled his arms for one over.

  • 12:10 AM IST

Live: West Indies 16/0 vs India; Trail by 337; Kraigg Brathwaite 8 (25), Leon Johnson 8 (23)–No damage done by the new opening pair for the home team. Brathwaite has another chance to score and score big as the Indian total is not huge. Johnson, on the other hand, knows the time is right for him as well. Live: West Indies 11/0 vs India; Trail by 342; Kraigg Brathwaite 8 (16), Leon Johnson 3 (8) – West Indies will now face the fierce of new-ball bowling. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami have been ferociously swinging the ball. However, Bhuvi has been banging the ball in order to generate bounce off the track.

  • 11:26 PM IST

Live: India 353 vs West Indies – All out! India lose 5 wickets in 14 runs. All credit goes to Ashwin and Saha, as they added record 213-run stand for the sixth wicket, scoring a hundred each. Had they not applied themselves sensibly, India would have been bundled out for a paltry total.

This the joint third-lowest total including a 200-run partnership.
OUT! Ishant Sharma c Leon Johnson b Miguel Cummins 0 (3)

    OUT! R Ashwin c Blackwood b Miguel Cummins 118 (297)

OUT! Bhuvneshwar Kumar c Leon Johnson Shannon S Gabriel 0(9)

  • 11:14 PM IST

Live: India 351/7 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 117 (294), Bhuvneshwar Kumar 0 (5) – Jadeja comes in to bat to at No. 8. To remind you, he has scored three thriple-hundreds in Test cricket thrice. I repeat, thrice. And he’s gone! Edges a back-of-length delivery to the keeper. Now the swords will be back if he fails to take wickets, as Amit Mishra had scored a fifty in the 1st match.

OUT! Ravindra Jadeja c Shane Dowrich b Miguel Cummins 6 (17)

  • 10:46 PM IST

Live: India 339/6 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 112 (280)– 100 for Saha, his maiden hundred. The dream comes true! A hundred in Test cricket! A hundred in red-ball cricket. A hundred in the most respected format of the game. Well done, Saha! Take a bow. He has been part of the squad for the last 18 months and toiled hard to reach where he is now. To fill MS Dhoni’s shoes wasn’t an easy task. And he did it… did it with distiction. He becomes only the fourth Indian wicket-keeper to score an overseas 100. It was MS Dhoni who previously achieved this feat; against Pakistan at Faisalabad.

However, he departs as soon as he achieves personal milestone. Alzarri Joseph gets his third scalp.

OUT! Wriddhiman Saha c Shane Dowrich b Alzarri Joseph 104 (227)

  • 10:35 PM IST

Live: India 330/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 108 (277), Wriddhiman Saha 98 (277) – India should be proud of R Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha. From 126 for 5 to 330 for 5, India has come a long way. The duo has now added 204 runs for the sixth wicket, highest 6th wicket partnership against West Indies, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri’s 170-run stand. While the top-order struggled to find thier feet, these two have made it look easy.

Live: India 323/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 105 (267), Wriddhiman Saha 94 (210) – That’s it! 100 for R Ashwin. Promoting him up the order has worked wonders for India. 4th overall hundred, all against the West Indies. And the staggering cricketer has reached another milestone. **2nd session**

  • 9:35 PM IST

Live: India 316/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 99 (257), Wriddhiman Saha 93 (208) – Ashwin doesn’t get his hundred before lunch. He’s on 99. He seems to be in no hurry. However, if he reaches the three-figure mark, it would be his fourth ton in Test cricket, all against West Indies. First one came in 2011, second in 2013 and now 1 in 2016, and one more in the waiting. Moreover, he’ll become the only Indian cricketer to score 2 hundreds and take 2 five-fors in the same series. On the other hand, Saha is unbeaten on 93.

  • 9:09 PM IST

Live: India 287/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 95 (249), Wriddhiman Saha 76 (185) – Two boundaries in one over: first one flicked over the inner circle and the next one was beautifully pulled. He seems to have got his eye in, and is all set for his maiden century. Ashwin, on the other hand, is enjoying Test cricket. This is something we did when we were kids: bat for a long time and don’t lose wicket. He is 5 runs short of his fourth Test hundred.

  • 8:58 PM IST

Live: India 275/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 92 (244), Wriddhiman Saha 67 (178) – Saha is, all of a sudden, showing intent, signs of aggression. As soon as Roston Chase was brought into the attack, Saha comes to the pitch of ball and puts it away to the vacant mid-wicket region. However, he has to be very cautious while playing his shots. All the work will be undone if throws away his wicket. Only 21 runs in the first hour and 19 after that.

  • 8:41 PM IST

Live: India 262/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 86 (229), Wriddhiman Saha 60 (169) – Two close-in fielders on the leg side are stationed. West Indies are bowling body-line. In fact, one of the short ball hit Saha’s helmet. Saha and Ashwin have been immaculate on the front foot. Hailing bouncers might unsettle them. Good news for India is that they still have Ravindra Jadeja at their disposal. Don’t forget, Sir Jadeja has three triple-hundreds to his name in First-Class cricket.

FOUR! Lovely, lovely stroke by Saha. He plays it on the up and cuts its past backward point.

  • 8:20 PM IST

Live: India 254/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 82 (220), Wriddhiman Saha 56 (154) – The spectator, who was livid in the last session yesterday, has graced the match with his presence today as well. However, he seems quiet. Who was he talking to, what was he talking about; no one has any clue. But he definitely looked vivid! On the hand, Saha scores the first boundary of the day; plays a lovely cover-drive. Pure Test match stuff!

  • 8:10 PM IST

Live: India 250/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 82 (214), Wriddhiman Saha 52 (148) – See the ball, leave the ball. Both batsmen have been extremely composed so far, playing strokes only when there’s a ball to hit. Nonetheless, Ashwin is 18 runs away from scoring his fourth century, and the only Indian to take two five-wicket hauls and two centuries in one series.

  • 8:01 PM IST

Live: India 249/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 82 (207), Wriddhiman Saha 52 (142) – Saha scores third half-century of his career, including only 4 boundaries. He had scored only 1 runs off his first 37 deliveries, keeping in mind that India needed someone who can stand test of time. And he exactly did that, and is looking good for his maiden hundred.

  • 7:52 PM IST

Live: India 243/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 80 (205), Wriddhiman Saha 48 (132) – West Indies bowlers continue the dominance. Gabriel bowled an absolute jaffa to Saha; a well-directed bouncer that Saha duck under at the last moment. With Saha’s backlift being absolutely straight, it’s easier for him to arch his back and leave the ball. He needs 2 runs to reach his half-century. The talismanic has, so far, batted with patience and grit. However, West Indies bowl two maidens in a row.

  • 7:41 PM IST

Live: India 243/5 vs West Indies; R Ashwin 80 (199), Wriddhiman Saha 48 (126) – Ravichandran looks in good touch this morning as well. In fact, barring Rahul, he is the only one who didn’t fail to apply himself sensibly. He shuffles across and the cuts the away-swingers by playing it on the up. It’s beautiful to see the angle at which his bat comes down. Reminds us of the great VVS Laxman, who, with his wrist, caught the spectators in trance.

11Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and live cricket updates’ post of the second day’s play between India and West Indies, in the third Test, at the Darren Sammy International Stadium. The first of the match belonged to the West Indian pacers, as they rattled India’s top-order with ferocious swing and pace. However, Virat Kohli choosing Rohit Sharma over Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara was the talk of the town. In fact, whatever decision Kohli took didn’t go India’s way. Be it Rohit’s inclusion or Kohli himself batting at No. 3, India eventually found themselves in a spot of bother, as they ended Day One at 234 for 4. Full Cricket Scorecard: India vs West Indies, 3rd Test match

KL Rahul, who scored a stunning 158 in the last match, continued his stellar performance, as he scored his maiden half-century (given he has three hundreds to his name). Of all the top-order batsmen, he was the only one who looked comfortable at the crease.

While Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were dismissed off a lethal bouncer, Ajinkya Rahane played an atrocious sweep to dismantle his defence, after scoring a well-compiled 35-run knock.

West Indies’ staggering bowling reduced the hosts to 126 for 5. The onus was then on the new No. 4 batsman Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha to steady the sinking ship.

Ashwin, who scored his third Test hundred in the first Test, impressed everyone with batting skills, scoring unbeaten 75 off 190 balls. Meanwhile, Saha remained unbeaten on 45.

West Indies, however, still have their nose ahead in the game. If they manage to skittle out in the first session, India might find themselves in a spot of bother.
