Evin Lewis, the powerful West Indies opening batsman, has pulled out from the upcoming limited-overs series against India citing personal reasons, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Wednesday. The five-match ODI series will begin with the first ODI in Guwahati on October 21. Lewis, who has played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, has two ODI hundreds in 35 games.

Lewis’ withdrawal comes as a big blow for the visiting team, who will miss the services of experienced players like Chris Gayle and Andre Russell. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Kieron Powell, who top scored for the West Indies with 83 in the first Test at Rajkot, has been drafted in as replacement in the ODI squad, while wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran has been named as his replacement for the T20I series.

Left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy, who grabbed eyeballs in the Caribbean Premier League for St Lucia Stars, is yet to make a debut in ODI, but will join the squad after he was announced as Alzarri Joseph’s replacement.
