The Indian Premier League (IPL) is in its the ninth edition. IPL 2016 this year also has eight teams with two new teaming into the mix, Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions eyeing the title. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) — were handed two-year suspension by the Indian Supreme Court. The ban on CSK and RR was one of the corrective measures taken by the Indian court, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was then forced to look for two new teams. The opening fixture will be Mumbai Indians (MI) hosting the new franchise Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Rohit Sharma will be hoping to defend the IPL title as they head into the tournament as favourites. The final will be played on May 29 at the very same venue as the opening fixture. In 2015, Mumbai Indians were the table toppers winning 9 games while Kings XI Punjab languished at the bottom with just three of wins on board. The team that wins will get two points and the top four teams at the end of the first round — which is all teams having played their home and away games — will go into the Play-Offs. The leading run-scorers in the tournament will be awarded with the Orange Cap, and the leading wicket-takers of the IPL 2016 will be given the Purple Cap.

NOTE: Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Gujarat Lions by 4 wickets in Qualifier 1 to reach the final of IPL 2016. Gujarat Lions will now play the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2.
NOTE: The table was updated following the conclusion of Qualifier 1 between Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore that RCB won by 4 wickets.
Shane Watson becoming the costliest player in the IPL 9. Watson was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs 9.5 crores. On the other hand, the enigmatic Indian skipper MS Dhoni was roped in by RPS for Rs 12 crores. The table was last updated after the IPL 2016 Match no. 16 between RCB and RPS.
