Delhi posted a decent total of 166 after being put to bat by Punjab in the second match of Indian T20 League. Gautam Gambhir registered his 36th half century equaling the record of most 50’s in the tournament with David Warner. Rishabh Pant (28) and Chris Morris(27*) also added valuable contribution to the total. KL Rahul‘s blitz took the game away from Delhi as at one point it seemed the game would be over under 15 overs.

In the post match presentation, Gambhir admitted that the first six overs took the game away from Delhi. He also praised the Delhi bowlers as they dragged the match till the 19th over.

“I thought that we got a decent total on the board but in the first 6 overs (of the chase), they put it beyond us. Credit to our bowlers, they fought back well to drag it into the 19th over. (Whether DD were short of runs) No, I thought that 160-165 was a good total because the old ball wasn’t easy to get away. Hence, the first 6 overs were key.”

Delhi have a good chance to lift their maiden IPL trophy with the return of Gambhir and the coaching of Ricky Ponting.

“Yes, we have a good start with Ricky and many others in the backroom staff. Hopefully we can get things right.”
