Shubman Gill gave a brilliant show to all the people with his bat on 2nd Day of the second Test between India and England. Among the spectators, India’s young batting sensation and IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi and rest of his U-19 teammates were also present at Edgbaston. Gill scored 269 runs which led India posting a score total of 587.

The Indian U-19 team is also in England as of now, for five youth ODIs and two youth T20Is. Their coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar revealed in a video shared by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their website that the head of the National Cricket Academy (BCA) VVS Laxman- was the main reason that the emerging youngsters were there to witness the game.

VVS Laxman was instrumental in arranging this. He was the one who actually said that it would be a good thing to go and watch this game. It’s definitely a special occasion for any upcoming cricketer to be at a Test venue,” said Kanitkar in a video posted by BCCI.

Apart from Shubman Gill’s outing of 269 runs, he shared a stand of 203 runs off 279 balls wish Ravindra Jadeja (who scored 89 off 137 balls), along with also sharing 144-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal (who scored 42 off 103 balls). All this strong gameplay led India to eventually post a mammoth total of 587.

With this century, Shubman Gill also became the first Asian captain who has scored a double century in a Test match in England. It also implies that he secured his name as the Indian batter with the highest individual score in England. Gill’s knock is now the holder for the record of highest-ever score in red-ball cricket by an Indian captain, which was previously held by Virat Kohli- 254* against South Africa in 2019.
