Iqbal Abdulla struck twice to remove Sunny Sohal and Kumar Sangakkara leaving Deccan Chargers reeling in their Indian Premier League match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Abdulla first scalped the wicket of Sohal, who raced to 26 off 20 balls to provide Deccan a steady start in pursuit of 170 set by Kolkata Knight Riders. The left-arm spinner then had Deccan skipper Sangakkara caught by Kallis for a duck.

Rajat Bhatia dealt heavy blows on Deccan, scalping the wickets of Cameron White and Daniel Christian to reduce the Chargers to 79 for four in 12 overs. Deccan need a further 98 runs to win from eight overs with six wickets in hand.

White s poor form with the bat continued as he was bowled for 13 off 13 balls, whereas Daniel Christian was unlucky to be adjudged lbw off Bhatia, as the ball took an inside edge and then hit the pads.

Dhawan, who has had a poor IPL4, returned to form when the team needed it the most smashed 54 off 45 balls studded with four boundaries and a six to lead Deccan s fightback. DB Ravi Teja played a useful innings of 30 off 22 balls before being dismissed by Brett Lee.

Earlier, Yusuf Pathan’s unbeaten 47 off 26 balls powered Kolkata Knight Riders to 169 for four from their 20 allotted overs. Manoj Tiwary played a fine innings of 33 off 28 balls.

Brief Scores: KKR 169 for 4 in 20 overs (Yusuf Pathan 47*, Gautam Gambhir 35, Manoj Tiwary 33; Amit Mishra 1 for 22, Daniel Christian 1 for 27) bt DC 149 for 6 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 54, DB Ravi Teja 30, Sunny Sohal 26; Rajat Bhatia 2 for 26, Iqbal Abdulla 2 for 34) by 20 runs.
