After losing a close tie to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday by five wickets, a dejected Deccan Chargers (DC) coach Darren Lehmann said his side must work on winning matches, rather than getting close to winning it.

Deccan made a solid start in the match, setting a target of 197 for the Royals, with opener Shikhar Dhawan playing a crucial knock of 52 runs and was instrumental in the opening-stand partnership of 94 runs with skipper Kumar Sangakkara.

Dhawan said that it was a good track to bat first and that they wanted to put up a big score for the opposition.

“Yes absolutely! [Approximately] 200 runs are a lot to get,” Dhawan mentioned about the target being sufficient.

Dhawan expressed disappointment over the fact that his side failed to defend a huge target of 197, having the likes of Dale Steyn in their ranks.

Dhawan said, “Yes, [we have to manage them]. We had planned that Dale Steyn would bowl the last two overs, and he did. But unfortunately, the game did not go our way. The other bowlers, Anand [Rajan], Amit Mishra and others also bowled [alright]. There is a strategy of who will bowl when.”

The opening partnership by Dhawan and Sangakkara was Deccan s highest opening run partnership against Rajasthan.

“I and Kumar Sangakkara had a good opening partnership, and hope that we continue to have such opening stands. Yes [we had decided to accelerate]. Things went according to plan as we had decided in the last five overs.”

Dhawan believes that it was the poor fielding by the Chargets, which was the main reason behind the loss.

“Our fielding was loose; we conceded too many runs [in the field]. And so the game went away from us.”

Dhawan couldn t confirm whether there will be any changes in the team in the match. He said DC needs to work on fielding even though they had been working on it.

“We would work more on the fielding. We were working on it earlier too but now we would stress on it a bit more,” Dhawan was quoted as saying in iplt20.com.

“I hope to make bigger scores for the team,” Dhawan concluded.
