Chennai: Apr 28, 2012

Mandeep Singh struck a fluent half-century to help Kings XI Punjab set a 157 run target against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

Punjab skipper David Hussey s decision to bat first was justified well by openers Shaun Marsh and Mandeep Singh, who added 68 runs for the first wicket.

Chennai got the first breakthrough when Marsh was run out in the ninth over, scoring 32 off 22 balls which included four boundaries and a six.

Mandeep s half-century and Marsh 32 were the only bright spots for Kings XI, as no other batsmen managed to get big runs against the Chennai bowling attack.

Punjab s star all-rounder Azhar Mahmood failed to convert start into a big score, when he was trapped in front of the wicket off Dwayne Bravo.

Mandeep completed his half-century off 44 balls, hitting five boundaries and a six. He fell in the 17th over, scoring 56 off 50 balls.

Chennai all-rounder Albie Morkel bagged three wickets for 29 runs in his spell of four overs.

Brief Scores: KXIP 156 for 8 in 20 overs (Mandeep Singh 56, Shaun Marsh 32; Albie Morkel 3 for 29) vs CSK
