Delhi Daredevils pacer Umesh Yadav appreciated the guidance of senior teammates Morne Morkel and Irfan Pathan for improving his bowling.

“Morne Morkel s style is a little different, so I ask him how he gives his deliveries pace and bounce; so then he explains that to me. He guides me on what I should or should not do. He always backs me,” he was quoted as saying by www.delhidaredevils.com.

On learning from Irfan Pthan, Umesh said, “What I learn from Irfan is his nature (the way he conducts himself on and off the field). He has played for many years, so I learn a lot from him (and his experience)…

Being with him is good for me and has helped me. He is a good person and supports me a lot; not only where cricket is concerned, but he guides in other things as well. He talks to me about how to conduct oneself and such things. He says, “Always be who you are, and lead a normal life.”

Umesh Yadav has picked up 6 wickets in this season of IPL so far without going for too many runs in any of the five matches. He came into the limelight last year representing for the same franchise and went on to re-affirm his place as a quality fast bowler when he picked up wickets during the tour to Australia in December last year.

Talking about his raw pace mixed with accuracy, he said, “I try to ensure that I am as accurate as possible. The more accurate I am, the better it will be for me.

If I get swing, but I am not bowling in the right areas, then that would be a problem. So my effort is towards [bowling the right] line and length and getting a little bit of swing with it too.”

Yadav applauded the support of Eric Simmons, Delhi Daredevils bowling coach. He is a very cool and uncomplicated person, so it is good to work with him. He is frank about his advice. He doesn t pressurise us about what and how he we should bowl. He motivates us and tries to further strengthen our strong areas.

Yadav also hailed the freedom, his skipper Virender Sehwag gave to the players and allowed the bowlers for setting the field according to their needs.

“He doesn t give the bowlers too much tension. He only tells us that when the ball is in your hand, you are the captain. What field you want, you tell me or set it yourself. He is very supportive, so I enjoy being with him.”

Delhi Daredevils failed to make any huge impact in the Indian Premier League ever since they qualified for the semi-finals during the first season. However with some quality players like Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardene, Ross Taylor and Morne Morkel Delhi will look to make this season count in their favor. Out of them Morkel and Pietersen have already shown their mettle by putting the opposition on the backfoot.

“The way KP (Kevin Pietersen) batted (was great and) there is good balance in the team. Along with our bowling, our batting line-up is also good. (So) it feels good. It was not like this last year. If we batted well the bowling wouldn t click (or vice a versa), but this year looks better. I am enjoying it,” concluded Yadav.
