PWI 170/9 | Overs 20 | Dinda 6*, Rahul Sharma 0*

Chris Gayle gets to bowl the last over of the innings with Pune needing six boundaries. Ajantha Mendis goes for the big heave over mid-wicket, misses and is trapped bang in front. Pune can just get six runs from the over and slip to a sixth straight defeat.

RCB win by 17 runs.

PWI 164/8 | Overs 19 | Mendis 2*, Dinda 1* OUT! Bhuvneshwar 2(3)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar holes out to long-off as RCB move a wicket away from their first away win of the season.

Pune need 24 runs from 6 balls.

PWI 160/7 | Overs 18 | Bhuvneshwar 1*, Mendis 0* OUT! Nayar 1(3), Uthappa 75(45)

Abhishek Nayar slogs Murali Kartik right into the hands of AB de Villiers at long-on as Robin Uthappa continues to lose partners at the other end. He isn’t disheartened as he knocks Kartik straight down for four. The right-hander then goes for a swivel-drive over square, but misconnects to find point. End of a great innings and, perhaps, Pune’s last hope.

Pune need 28 runs from 12 balls.

PWI 152/5 | Overs 17 | Uthappa 68*, Nayar 1* OUT! Mathews 32(19)

Angelo Mathews look to guide Vinay Kumar wide of point, but Chris Gayle swiftly dives to his left and takes a great catch. Can this be the turning point of the game? Not on my watch, says Robin Uthappa as he smacks the bowler bang onto the sightscreen for six. Pune need two runs a ball from here.

Pune need 36runs from 18 balls.

PWI 143/4 | Overs 16 | Uthappa 61*, Mathews 32*

Angelo Mathews wonderfully drives Muttiah Muralitharan over long-on for maximum before Robin Uthappa comes in and does the exact same. Mathews then gets the third carbon copy six of the over to make it 21 of the over. Surely, surely, Pune can’t turn this around?!

Pune need 45 runs from 24 balls.

PWI 122/4 | Overs 15 | Uthappa 54*, Mathews 18*

Robin Uthappa reaches his first half-century of IPL 6 with a massive slog over deep mid-wicket off the bowling of RP Singh. Uthappa gets a boundary later after placing a full toss wide of long-on.

Pune need 66 runs from 30 balls.

PWI 112/4 | Overs 14 | Uthappa 44*, Mathews 18*

Angelo Mathews whacks Murali Kartik over long-on, after other shots to clear the rope did not succeed. Still RCB’s game to lose here as we move into the final six overs of the game.

Pune need 76 runs from 36 balls.

PWI 98/4 | Overs 13 | Uthappa 40*, Mathews 8*

Robin Uthappa shuffles across and pulls Vinay Kumar over deep square-leg for half a dozen. Pune need many, many more of these now in the final 7-8 overs. 13 runs come from the over.

PWI 85/4 | Overs 12 | Uthappa 32*, Mathews 3*

Murali Kartik comes back for a second over and does an excellent job of it, giving just three runs. PWI’s required run-rate is almost 13 now.

PWI 82/4 | Overs 11 | Uthappa 31*, Mathews 1* OUT! Yuvraj 16(11), Smith 4(4)

Yuvraj Singh pulls Vinay Kumar straight into the safe hands of AB de Villiers at long-on and Pune have lost another important wicket. Steven Smith then playes a late punch to deep point for four, before nicking one to the keeper. Double blow for Pune and they are in big trouble!

PWI 77/2 | Overs 10 | Uthappa 31*, Yuvraj 16*

Yuvraj Singh spanks a fullish delivery from Muttiah Muralitharan straight down the ground for another maximum for Pune. They have got things moving here and these two have the capability to put on a big partnership. Nine runs come from the over.

PWI 68/2 | Overs 9 | Uthappa 24*, Yuvraj 15*

Yuvraj Singh hits a sweet lofted drive straight over long-on for six, before Robin Uthappa cracks a backfoot drive through the covers for four. Yuvraj then comes back to launch Moises Henriques on the other arm of the ‘V’ for six more valuable runs for PWI.

PWI 49/2 | Overs 8 | Uthappa 18*, Yuvraj 2*

Muttiah Muralitharan starts off with a tidy over. Just four runs from it.

PWI 46/2 | Overs 7 | Uthappa 18* OUT! Suman 11 (14)

Muttiah Muralitharan forces a run out! Suman guides the ball down to third man and calls for the second run. To his horror, Muralitharan’s throw is quick and accurate and he falls short of his ground. Pune lose their third wicket. Henriques will be happy. Suman had earlier hit him for a boundary in the over.

PWI 39/1 | Overs 6 | Uthappa 13*, T Suman 9*

Vinay Kumar maintains good line and length and mixes it up well in his very first over. He has no room to offer to either batsmen and concedes just four runs. He comes close to dismissing Sumar who tries to play the ball over mid on and Muralitharan can only get his fingers to the ball.

PWI 35/1 | Overs 5 | Uthappa 11*, T Suman 7*

A poor delivery to start off with from Henriques. He bowls a length delivery outside offstump and Suman plays it over the top to the guide it to boundary on the off-side. Henriques bowls to Uthappa on the pads who plays a good leg glance to guide it to the fine leg boundary. A good over for the Pune Warriors. 10 runs come from it.

PWI 25/1 | Overs 4 | Uthappa 6*, T Suman 2*

A good tight over from RP Singh. He doesn’t give any width to either batsmen as they settle for just five singles. Suman is lucky to survive after an outside edge is missed by wicketkeeper Arun Karthik who reaches out but can only get his fingertips to the ball.

PWI 20/1 | Overs 3 | Uthappa 4*, T Suman 0* OUT! Finch 15(11)

Aaron Finch powerfully pulls Moises Henriques over deep mid-wicket, before going for another slog and finding the inside edge onto the stumps. Poor shot that.

PWI 12/0 | Overs 2 | Finch 8*, Uthappa 3*

RP Singh bowls the second over and concedes eight runs, including a wide. No urgency yet from Pune.

PWI 4/0 | Overs 1 | Finch 2*, Uthappa 2*

Murali Kartik bowls the first over for RCB and gives away four runs. PWI need to get to a good start if they want to keep any hopes of chasing this down.

What an anticlimax for Pune! They started so brightly and then ran into AB de Villiers and Moises Henriques in the end. 188 is going to be no easy target on this track. Aaron Finch’s men will have to bat out of their skins to avoid a sixth straight defeat. Join us in a bit for the chase.

RCB 187/3 | Overs 20 | de Villiers 50*, Henriques 27*

AB de Villiers shuffles across his stumps to Ashok Dinda, gets down on one knee and slogs the bowler over deep mid-wicket for six, before getting a similar shot through, only changing the direction to straight down the ground for four. De Villiers then leans back and thwacks Dinda over long-off for another maximum, before getting the cheekiest of reverse-lifts to third-man for four. De Villiers then shuffles across again and slog-sweeps to deep backward square leg for four more. The last ball of the over is skied, but lands safely in no man’s land. 50 off 23 balls for de Villiers! 67 runs off the last five overs for RCB, 26 of which came in the last over. Dinda ends with two for 52.

RCB 161/3 | Overs 19 | de Villiers 24*, Henriques 27*

Bhuvneshwar Kumar seems to have bowled a fantastic penultimate over before Moises Henriques steps down the track and cuts through extra-cover for four. RCB are already over the par score. Any runs from here are a bonus.

RCB 154/3 | Overs 18 | de Villiers 21*, Henriques 23*

Moises Henriques goes for the charge as he lofts Ashok Dinda straight down the ground for six before making room and spanking him to extra-cover for four.

RCB 142/3 | Overs 17 | de Villiers 20*, Henriques 12*

Rahul Sharma concedes a couple of unlucky boundaries for his team after Moises Henriques first gets an under-edge and then an outside-edge past the keeper for four. Welcome runs for RCB! They’ll take as many as they get.

RCB 130/3 | Overs 16 | de Villiers 19*, Henriques 1* OUT! S Tiwary 52(45)

Ashok Dinda comes back for a second over and picks up another wicket! Saurabh Tiwary tries to play a cheeky sweep, but finds the top edge as the ball loops up into the air and is easily taken at short fine-leg. End of a fine innings from Tiwary, although he would be disappointed with his mode of dismissal. AB de Villiers then gets two boundaries for his team, including his own version of a Dilscoop.

RCB 119/2 | Overs 15 | S Tiwary 52*, de Villiers 9*

Ajantha Mendis comes back for his final over. He bowls a full toss outside off to AB de Villiers and that isn’t going to be left unpunished. De Villiers drives it through the covers for four and RCB get four more runs from the over.

RCB 111/2 | Overs 14 | S Tiwary 50*, de Villiers 3*

Saurabh Tiwary gets in a massive pull of Rahul Sharma and the ball sails into the stands behind deep mid-wicket. He drills another one straight down the ground, but the ball is fielded well by Steven Smith at the rope. Tiwary brings up his first half-century of IPL 6 in the process.

RCB 100/2 | Overs 13 | S Tiwary 41*, de Villiers 0* OUT! Kohli 25(18)

Ashok Dinda gets a bowl for the first time and knocks over Virat Kohli’s woodwork straight away. It was a shortish delivery that kept a bit low; Kohli went for the pull, but wood missed leather as Pune got their second big wicket of the night.

RCB 96/1 | Overs 12 | S Tiwary 40*, Kohli 23*

Rahul Sharma comes back into the attack and gives away five runs in his second over. 140 would be a very good score on this pitch and that would be what RCB are targeting.

RCB 91/1 | Overs 11 | S Tiwary 36*, Kohli 22*

Yuvraj Singh is brought into the attack and is taken to the cleaners straight away. First, Yuvi bowls short to Virat Kohli, who pulls the ball to deep mid-wicket for a boundary. The next, a full toss outside off, is thrashed throught the covers, before a fuller delivery is metted with the same treatment. 15 runs from the over for RCB, and they have shifted gears now!

RCB 75/1 | Overs 10 | S Tiwary 35*, Kohli 7*

Bhuvneshwar Kumar gives away 10 wide runs after his wayward deliveries on either side of the left-handed Saurabh Tiwary run away for four byes each. And suddenly, RCB’s run-rate takes a boost and looks healthy at the halfway point.

RCB 59/1 | Overs 9 | S Tiwary 31*, Kohli 6*

Saurabh Tiwary decides enough is enough as he steps out and launches Ajantha Mendis over long-off — only just — before pulling a short-pitched delivery for a boundary. First good over for RCB, as 12 runs come from it.

RCB 47/1 | Overs 8 | S Tiwary 19*, Kohli 5*

Rahul Sharma comes into the attack and concedes six singles as RCB continue to crawl along on this sluggish surface.

RCB 41/1 | Overs 7 | S Tiwary 16*, Kohli 1* OUT! Gayle 21(21)

Chris Gayle lofts T Suman straight down the ground and over the sightscreen for the first six of the innings. But just when you thought Gayle has kicked off, he mistimes another uppish drive that goes high in the air towards extra cover where Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes running in and takes a good catch. HUGE wicket for PWI! Sorry folks, no 175 not out today!

RCB 30/0 | Overs 6 | S Tiwary 13*, Gayle 15*

Saurabh Tiwary steps down the track against Angelo Mathews and cuts him past point for four first ball. Mathews recovers well to give just three more runs. And thus, RCB are done with the Powerplay and have just 30 runs on board. Pune will take that.

RCB 23/0 | Overs 5 | S Tiwary 8*, Gayle 13*

Ajantha Mendis comes in for a second and is tight as ever, conceding just three runs. This is a great start from Pune. They have managed to keep Gayle quiet so far.

RCB 20/0 | Overs 4 | S Tiwary 7*, Gayle 11*

Bhuvneshwar Kumar manages to keep Chris Gayle quiet for the first three balls of his second over before offering oodles of width. The ball is, of course, spanked through the covers. Just one more single comes from the over as Gayle keeps strike.

RCB 15/0 | Overs 3 | S Tiwary 7*, Gayle 6*

T Suman is given the ball and both the RCB batsmen go for their shots, but find the fielders. You can sense somthing is about to happen here. A big over or wickets…

RCB 9/0 | Overs 2 | S Tiwary 4*, Gayle 4*

Ajantha Mendis comes into the attack and bowls tight and straight. RCB can get just one run off the over. Is this the lull before the storm? PWI will cenrtainly not hope so.

RCB 8/0 | Overs 1 | S Tiwary 3*, Gayle 4*

Bhuvneshwar Kumar offers some width to Chris Gayle and that’s all he needs to thwack it through the off-side for four.

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has won the toss against the Pune Warriors India and elected to bat first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

There are two changes in the Pune side, as revealed by skipper Aaron Finch. Angelo Mathews makes a return to the side, replacing Luke Wright while Ajantha Mendis comes in for Kane Richardson. However, Mathews is not captaining Pune.

For Bangalore, Muttiah Muralitharan comes back in the side and surprise, surprise — there is no Jaydev Unadkat today! So, RCB are playing both the Muralis — Muttiah and Kartik — today.

PWI have not won a game at home this IPL, while RCB haven’t won away from home! One of those records is going to break today.

Teams:

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Moises Henriques, Saurabh Tiwary, Arun Karthik (wk), Murali Kartik, Vinay Kumar, RP Singh, Muttiah Muralitharan.

Pune Warriors India: Robin Uthappa (wk), Aaron Finch (c), Tirumalsetti Suman, Yuvraj Singh, Steven Smith, Angelo Mathews, Abhishek Nayar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Ashok Dinda, Ajantha Mendis.

A very good evening to one and all and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Pune Warriors India and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

This is Jaideep Vaidya and I will be bringing you over-by-over updates of the match played at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium.

This is Bangalore’s third straight away trip and they have three more to go after this game. As it turns out, life isn’t so easy far away from the comfort of home at the Chinnaswamy Stadium for RCB, as they are struggling to find the spunk that made them almost unbeatable in Bangalore.

However, the trip to Pune might just be RCB’s best chance to find a cure to their home sickness  and get their confidence back, since the Warriors are certainly the most deflated team in the tournament right now, with five straight defeats that left them at the back of the class.
