Nov 25, 2014
The Supreme Court’s hearing of the Mudgal panel’s report on the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting controversy will resume today. Yesterday, the Supreme Court had said that N Srinivasan shouldn’t assume that he was given a clean chit and it will be interesting to see what decision is taken on him.
PTI reported Supreme Court telling BCCI, “Cricket must be played in its true spirit and should remain a gentleman’s game.” About the spot-fixing scandal, it said, “If you allow these things to happen, then you are killing the game of cricket.”
Some of the major events expected in this hearing are – will the SC clear N Srinivasan to resume term as BCCI chief and what decision will be taken on Gurunath Meiyappan whose involvement with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been proved. Earlier, Srinivasan had said that Meiyappan was just an ‘enthusiast’.
Additionally, Sunder Raman who was IPL’s COO until 2008, has been found to have contacted a bookie eight times during a single season. From the names mentioned above, only Srinivasan and Raman have filed their grievances after the decision.
