India seamer Lakshmipathy Balaji was on Wednesday purchased by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 1.8 crores in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2014. He previously played in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Seamers suddenly seemed to be trending after the purchase of Nathan Coulter-Nile. The bid for the Tamil Nadu seamer started at one crore, but Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore made frantic bidding.

Royal Challengers backed out once before joining in, and then had another go at Balaji. However, once Kings XI Punjab bid 1.8 crores the Royal Challengers backed out.

Nobody else seemed to be interested in the seamer, who has always been a decent act in this format.
