Sri Lanka‘s veteran batsman Mahela Jayawardene who captained Delhi Daredevils last season has gone unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 auction. It is to some extent surprising that he went unsold as he has the ability to stitch some fine partnerships and hold the innings together.

In 2013, Jayawardene wasn’t in good form but there was still a thinking that he could be taken by budget teams like Rajasthan Royals (RR) who look for experienced captains to lead their young side. Jayawardene has been a regular part of IPL since 2008. He has played for both Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Delhi Daredevils.
