Rajasthan Royals (RR) had retained five players — Shane Watson, Stuart Binny, James Faulkner, Ajinkya Rahane, and Sanju Samson. This meant that they had no ‘Right to Match card’ available to them when they went for the auction.

Biggest purchase: Tim Southee at a throwaway price.

Biggest surprise: Not going for someone like Mahela Jaywardene. They have been typically mentored by seniors like Shane Warne and Rahul Dravid, but this time they did not go for one. Watson may not fit the bill.

Most confusing move: None. They have always been the most level-headed of the franchises.

Probable dark horse: Abhishek Nayar and Sanju Samson.

Team strength: The group of all-rounders.

Team weakness: Over-dependence on the injury-prone Shane Watson.
