Sakib Al Hasan plays a short arm pull off Mohit Sharma as it goes for another boundary. They can win this game in this over itself. Yes Sakib does it with another sumptuous boundary. Kolkata are in rip-roaring form in IPL 7. Even Gambhir is smiling! Can you believe it?

Hilfenhaus is back in the attack. He needs to do a Courtney Wash and take 5 for 1 for Chennai to win the game. Well Hasan is in a hurry. He paddles it around the corner over fine leg  for a six. It didn’t even come from the middle of the bat. He follows it up with two more boundaries.Who wants to be a bowler?

Suresh Raina with his part-time off-spin bowls the 16th over. Shakib continues to impress by coming down the track and clambering him for another four. Runs are flowing like gigantic river from him. Pandey just playing a steady hand at the other end.

Ashwin completes another over of off-spin and Al Hasan collects one ore boundary. Kolkata batsmen just seem to be i cruise mode here. They may win this game in a canter. They are certainly a team in superb form. Kolkata is a team that suddenly has the momentum.

Al Hasan the superb all-rounder from Bangladesh seems to be a in a hurry to end this game. He smashes Jadeja over mid wicket for a six over mid wicket. Chennai just seem to be going through a wallow of mediocrity here. They need a few wickets desperately to comeback into the game.

Ravi Ashwin follows up Sir Jadeja’s over with a good one. He just keeps it simple and reaps the rewards. But Kolkata batsmen know that they can win this game by taking singles and twos. It seems like Chennai players are going through motions here.

Uthappa finally gets out caught by du Plessis off the bowling of Sir Jadeja. He was batting beautifully until he gout out. A sad end to a fine innings. Chennai though need more wickets.
OUT! R Uthappa c du Plessis b R Jadeja  67(39)

Uthappa takes it from off-stump to essay wonderful flick shot off Ishwar Pandey. The stroke was Mark Waughesque in terms of style and silky grace. He tries to play a lofted stroke down the ground but it skews of the bat. Thankfully for Robin no fielder goes for the catch.

Ashwin continues to bowl after strategic time out ends. Kolkata batsmen just looking to deal in singles and twos. Hmm! Uthappa heard me as thwacks Ashwin for a monstrous six. The thunderous volley of shots from Uthappa’s willow continues to wow the crowd.

It is Sir Jadeja into the bowling attatck now for Chennai. Maybe he can take a few wickets with his golden arm. Uthappa on the other hand just continues to play with poise and balance. He complete his half-century too off just 29 balls.

It is who Mohit Sharma who is bowling the eighth over for Chennai. Manish Pandey is the new batsman for Kolkata. Pandey looks to play himself in during the over. Mohit though will be encouraged by the fact that he was still getting a bit of swing.

Ishwar Padney finally makes the breakthrough with the one that shaped into Gambhir to send his stumps for a walk in the park. They needed that wicket as it was raining boundaries. Chennai need a few more wickets to create a bit of panic in Kolkata’s camp.
OUT! G Gambhir b I Pandey 21(20)

Ahswin comes into the attack. He will be looking to make up for his drop catch. But Uthappa is a batsman who has hit top form here. He deftly and neatly sweeps him for a boundary. Chennai are searching for a wicket here. It has to be said though they have already qualified for Playoffs.

It is Hilfy who is bowling the fifth over of the game. Hilfy still looking to shape it away from Uthappa. He tries one inswinger finally but it drifts down the leg side and it races to the boundary boards from Uthappa’s bat. Uthappa passing the trial by fire test with aplomb.

Chennai need some inspiration from somewhere especially after those two drop catches. A superman-like effort to take a catch can help. It has been a decent over till now by Ishwar Pandey the seamer but he needs to maintain the consistency. Just two runs from the over in the end.

Yet again Uthappa edges one outside the off-stump but Raina makes a mess of that one. It is Uthappa’s day for sure! Mohit Sharma the bowler will be a devastated man. Gambhir too joins the part with a crackerjack square drive. Kolkata batsmen are on their way.

Uthappa is in splendored touch in IPL 7. Two more boundaries from the willowy master in the second over of the game. Chennai seamers under the pump straightaway. There was a time when Uthappa used to shuffle across too much and his head used to fall away towards the off-side. He has corrected that now and looks in resplendent touch in IPL 2014.

Robin Uthappa straightaway shows his class by leaning into drive and essaying a boundary. Uthappa with his re-modeled technique looks a different batsman. Ben Hilfenhaus is getting a nice shape away from him though. The nice shape away from the right-hander almost works but Ravi Ashwin makes a mess of a simple chance at first slip. Uthappa then nonchalantly flicks it for four. A bad start for Chennai.

The final over is bowled by the impressive Umesh Yadav. Yadav till now has tried to keep it simple by bowling full and straight. However then he bangs it short and pays the price as Dhoni pulls it for six. Back to basics for Yadav as he bowls a searing yorker that tailed onto MS Dhoni. It has been an over made up of good deliveries and bad ones as Yadav bowls a full toss that is above the waist. Dhoni top edges it to third man fielder and is caught as well. But the umpire duly declares it as no ball. Chennai finally end up with 154 on the board.

Ravindra Jadeja err Sir clambers Sunil Narine for a six over long on. You get an inkling that a left-hander can play Sunil Narine better as Narine likes to stay over the wicket. They will look for 20 runs of the final over here.

Chawla bowls a half-tracker that was asking to be hit. No wonder Dhoni sends it to the boundary boards at the speed of red-lightning. You have to bowl better than that to keep Dhoni at bay. At the other end of the spectrum, Raina finally gets out to Chawla. A well judged catch by Doeschate, the Essex magic man.
OUT! S Raina c ten Doeschate b P Chawla 65(52)

du Plessis looks to run like a jackrabbit between the wickets but is run out as a result of a direct hit from Piyush Chawla at short mid wicket. Kolkata players are relieved as both were taking the game away from the opposition ranks. The one and only MS Dhoni has come into bat at No 4 batting position.
OUT! du Plessis run out 23(20)

Du Plessis certainly has come a long way since playing for Lancashire in T20s. He is engineering Chennai’s charge here. He essays a fine shot over long off to smash a boundary. The over ends with Raina tonking one more six. A great try by the boundary rider Pandey to take the catch.

Sunil Narine continues to bowl for Kolkata. It is about playing from the crease against him as no one wants to take a chance against him. Chennai perhaps need about 50-60 runs during the last five overs of their innings to feel a bit safe.

Piyush Chawla continues to bowl for KKR. Raina though uses his feet like a hyper modern ballet dancer to send it deep into the orbit over long on for a six.The leg-spinner is under the pump here. Raina also completes his half-century.

Cummins is back into the attack. He perhaps needs to angle it into the right-handed batmen more. He tries a slower one and it goes horribly wrong with du Plessis collecting  a boundary by helping it around the corner. From CSK’s point of view they need more of that.

Raina targets his favourite mid wicket region to thump a six off Chawla. It was a leg-break. Time for Piyush Chawla to try a googly. For Chennai, they need more power packed shots. The par score can be around 160 on this track.

Ian an attempt to go for the bazooka shot McCullum gets out. A huge blow for Chennai. Narine is one bowler who bowls quicker though and can turn it both ways without any real change in his action. How do you line him up and essay boundaries and sixes? Eagle-like eyes can help. Chennai are losing the plot here.
OUT! B McCullum c S Yadav b S Narine 28(24)

It is Piyush Chawla who comes into the attack. Maybe his googly will work here as batsmen have not picked the googly in IPL 7. You wonder what little Mushy would have done in IPL 7 with his magical googly. Just 4 runs from the 9th over of the game as well. Well bowled Chawla!

Umesh Yadav continues to bowl. A fine over too from him. Here is one bowler who should play for India for a longtime to come. Chennai perhaps need their batsmen to bat like turbocharged engines and up the ante, as this is a good track for batting.

Suresh Raina comes down the wicket but it doesn’t come out of the sweet spot of the bat. However these days you don’t need to hit out of the sweet spot of the bat. Yusuf Pathan at long of should have taken the chance as well but he couldn’t hold onto it as the ball races to the boundary boards. It can turn out to be a costly miss in the end.

With some bowlers the ball just seems it is big. But when Yadav grips it the ball seems to nicely sit in his hands. A fluid and rhythmic action. More so he zips through the crease quickly. A fine over too bowled by him as only six runs come out of it.

It is Shakib Al Hasan who is back in the attack. From around the wicket he attacks the stumps and doesn’t give much room for the left-handed Raina to free his arms. With a fast outfield coming into play, Chennai need a few more overs where bowlers can keep the batsmen on a tight leash.

Raina greets Sunil Narine the man with a box of tricks with a six. Narine though comes back with a bang by bowling well during the rest of the over. This is going to be a key battle in this IPL 7 game.

McCullum takes on the challenging of facing Cummins by smashing him for two sumptuous sixes. He then follows it up with another boundary through covers. McCullum has fast hands and seems like preternatural hand-eye co-ordination too! Sometimes extra pace can go against you.

Pat Cummins excites you just like when Dale Steyn first arrived on the scene against England at Port Elizabeth in 2004. The third over is bowled by Umesh Yadav. Raina though showcases his class by thwacking him for a boundary.

Pat Cummins, the express fast bowler starts on a bang by shattering the stumps off Dwayne Smith. It just about in slanted into the batsman in the air before leaving the right-hander. He also extracted movement off the surface. Cummins must be in a fantasy world by now. He is now bowling to Raina.

Chennai start their innings on a bang, as Dwayne Smith clambered into Al Hasan by compiling a wondrous boundary over covers. With a bit of  grass on the track you perhaps expected a seamer to start the proceedings.
