When Harshal Patel got strike in the last two balls of the 18th over of the match being bowled by Sunil Narine, one would have expected him to block out the balls since he was playing defensive strokes throughout the innings and giving Chris Gayle strike to do his job. Instead he went for an unsuccessful heave in the fifth ball of that over and the next ball he went for a big shot again. This time he made connection and the result was a mighty six! It was Gayle himself who insisted that Patel go for the big shots even though Gayle was reluctant to give him the strike early on. “I think one of the turning points was when I told Patel to hit one of the six off the last two deliveries off Narine’s final over,” said Gayle. “He missed out on the first one and I told him to go again. He then hit the last one out of the park. I told him to go again and when he got it, I told him that we can’t lose the game from here,” Gayle continued. RCB finally won the game with one whole over to spare and even though Gayle got out for 96 off 56 balls, he had done the job for his team.

“Eventually I got out though, but really happy that we came through. Cricket is a funny game, I told them in the end that whatever happens, just give your best. It was fun overall. It will be a cracking game against Chennai as they are coming on the back of two wins,” Gayle concluded.
