Ravichandran Ashwin had a fantastic outing against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), picking two wickets for 14 runs in his four overs, helping Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a thumping 97 run victory. This would have been relieving after the previous ordinary outings which saw him bowl just four overs in three matches. According to him the seamer-friendly surfaces in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 have made things difficult for spinners. CRICKET UPDATES AND COMMENTARY: CSK vs KXIP IPL 2015 Match 24

He said, the change was made in tracks in a bid to equip the Indian batsmen to negotiate swing bowling better in overseas conditions. “I think in a bid to make the Indian players better equipped on the overseas tours, there is more grass left on the wickets this time. It is too early to comment how much effect it will have on the tournament but I think the grass on the wicket is definitely aiding the fast bowlers with the new ball, Ashwin was quoted as saying by iplt20.com. He admitted that the change in conditions pose new challenges for the spinners but is willing to tackle it head on. “Because the ball remains more or less the same in a 20-over innings, it stays on pretty well. That is becoming a challenge for the spinners. If you see, even when the spinners have picked wickets this season, they have gone for 35-40 runs,” Ashwin said. IPL 2015: Schedule with venue details

Ashwin was all praise for teammate Ashish Nehra, who is second in line for the purple cap (leading wicket-taker) with 12 wickets in the IPL 8. “Ashish Nehra to me is one of the finest bowlers that India has produced. He did great service to the Indian team from 2006 till 2011. He was one of the lynchpins of our 2011 World Cup winning side as well. What I admire about him is that he never sulks. He picks up the new ball, bowls in the powerplay, bowls in the death, whether it is AB de Villiers or Yuvraj Singh he is up against,” Ashwin said.
