Bhuvneshwar Kumar playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) claimed the purple cap in the ninth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. Kumar who has been impeccable with his line and length ended up picking picking up 23 wickets in 17 matches with best of 29 for 4. Kumar remained wicket less in the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (SRH) on Sunday night. Kumar has also been one of the most economical bowler this season along with team mate Mustafizur Rahman. Rahman himself was at No.5 in the highest wicket taker list with 17 wickets to his name with the least economic rate of 6.90. RCB’s Yuzvendra Chahal is No.2 in the list with 21 wickets from just 13 matches, which shows is bowling prowess. Closely followed at No.3 is team mate Shane Watson who picked 20 wickets in 16 games but has a poor economy rate of 8.58. Dhawal Kulkarni comes in at No.4 with 18 wickets playing for new entrant Gujarat Lions. This is the second time that a player from representing the franchise from Hyderabad has won the purple cap. Pragyan Ohja played for Deccan Charger in season 3 of the cash rich IPL, ended up snatching 21 wickets in 16 matches.

SRH skipper David Warner on winning the IPL title credited the whole team for it’s victory and refused to give credit to individuals. Warner  in post match interview said,”It was a fantastic team achievement. To lead this side and the support from the players, me pulling my weight with the runs, it has been a hard journey. It’s a team effort. To have the perfect game, we needed to gel. For us, the key was team effort all the way”.
