IPL 2017: Hat-trick man Samuel Badree says Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) did not have enough runs vs Mumbai Indians (MI)

Samuel Badree, who claimed the first hat-trick in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, rued the fact that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) did not have enough runs on the board against Mumbai Indians. Despite a terrific bowling spell from Badree which saw the bowler claiming a hat-trick in the third over of Mumbai Indians’ chase, Royal Challengers Bangalore hobbled to a 4-wicket defeat in the 12th match of IPL 10, played at their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. “Yeah, of course. It is a special day. It was a Good Friday. It was a Good Friday for me. Unfortunately, it was not a Good Friday for the team. I just think we did not have enough runs on board,” Badree told reporters post IPL 10 Match 12 at Bengaluru, according to PTI. He added, “It is a nice feeling to get a hat-trick. To get three wickets in the Powerplay — normally teams chasing lose games but unfortunately it did not go our way tonight. Tremendous feeling to get a hat-trick but it could have been so much better if we had won.”

Badree rocked Mumbai Indians in their chase of 143, reducing them to 7 for 4. He claimed the wickets of Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma to record the first hat-trick of IPL 2017.

“We had a good foundation, Chris at the beginning and Virat after that. But I just think we did not score enough runs. Credit needs to be given to Pollard and Krunal the way they batted with maturity,” said Badree.

Talking about Kieron Pollard’s innings which took the game away from RCB, Badree said, “Yeah, he got some balls in the arc and backed his strengths, which is down the ground. He batted with maturity. He showed a lot of guts and character and credit needs to be given to Krunal as well.”

Badree said the pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was slow and Royal Challengers Bangalore did not have enough runs on the board to defend. “It was the pitch, I think it was a bit slow. At the end of the day 142 was not special. I think we needed excess of 160. We looked at 160-170 at one stage, but did not capitalise on the start we got. All in all, we were a bit under-par with the bat,” Badree said.

On the hat-trick ball, Badree cleaned up Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma. Talking about Rohit’s weakness against spin, Badree said, “I don’t think we had any specific strategy against Rohit Sharma per se, it was about the conditions.”

Badree concluded by saying the decision to leave out Shane Watson in favour of him was due to the fact that conditions were dry, which could have helped spinners than seamers.
