IPL 2017 has seen plenty of changes over past few months. Not only the eight franchises are missing out on some of their top players, but there have been some shocking changes of leadership as well. When MS Dhoni was removed as Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) captain, Steven Smith took over the reins for the upcoming edition. RPS s Ajinkya Rahane, however, feels the Australian and new franchise captain might seek advice from Dhoni during the tournament. He also insisted that Dhoni s presence will not only inspire budding domestic players but also the overseas cricketers. Apart from his recent successful stint as stand-in Indian captain, Rahane is also the vice-captain of RPS. During RPS s promotional event, Rahane told Hindustan Times, A person like MS Dhoni teaches a lot even with his presence. He doesn t speak much, but when he does, he leaves you inspired. On being one of the Indian captains to secure a Test victory on debut, Rahane credited Sachin Tendulkar, Before the match, I got a call from Sachin. He also asked me to follow my instincts. It inspired me. As a captain, I knew I am a different person. On the ground, I knew I had seniors with me, but at the end, I had to take calls. Throughout the match, I wanted to follow my style.

RPS comprises of players who have captained their respective national sides that includes Rahane, Smith, Dhoni and Faf du Plessis.

During RPS s inaugural season, they ended the tournament on a flying note with Dhoni s typical finishing touch where he chased 23 off the final over to seal a four-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
