IPL 2017: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 49 and other lowest totals in history of T20 cricket

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday registered the lowest-ever total in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. RCB were bowled out for mere 49 in 9.4 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Match No. 27 of the ongoing IPL 2017, which is also the 10th lowest total overall in all T20 cricket. RCB lost the contest by a massive margin of 82 runs, and thus have hit the lowest spot in the IPL 10 Points Table. KKR bowlers Chris Woakes, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Colin de Grandhomme claimed 3 wickets each, while Umesh Yadav snaffled 1 wicket to help KKR create history. Chasing a target of 132 to win, RCB were bowled out with more than 10 overs to spare, precisely 62 balls. Among the teams bowled out for lowest total, RCB also faced the least number of overs in their innings. No team, before the clash on April 23 night, were bowled out for less than 10 overs in the history of IPL, but the same cannot be said for overall T20 cricket. On December 26, 2013, Mohammedan were shot out for a mere 45 in 8.4 overs, which is the lowest-ever number of overs faced in all T20 cricket.
RCB’s total of 49 is also the first time any team was bowled out for less than 50. Before this game, Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) total of 58 in 15.1 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 18, 2009, was the lowest-ever IPL total.
